Haircare tips by TRESemme!

Healthy-looking hair is all about strength. Try these simple tips for durable locks—so your tresses are ready to take on all the styles you like.

  • Don’t rough dry wet hair out of the shower with a towel as it will damage hair. Instead, blot hair to remove the moisture.
  • Always condition your hair if it’s prone to breakage. Conditioning is the best way to give your hair the nourishment it needs to stay strong.

  • Use detangling spray and a wide-tooth comb on damp hair—wet hair is more delicate.
  • If your hair is especially delicate, sleep on a satin pillowcase. Satin won’t snag your hair or cause friction like cotton, which can rough up the cuticle of extremely fine hair.
  • Don’t use elastics that have metal clasps on them. Always tie up your hair with covered, snag-free elastics.
  • Try not to sleep with your hair tied back. Leave your hair down as often as possible at night to prevent breakage.
  • Getting the right brush is key for frizz-free hair. Invest in a boar-bristle brush with a rubber base to smooth and straighten hair.
  • Hair is most fragile when it is wet, so after washing, dry hair gently with a towel to absorb excess water. Avoid brushing until most of the moisture has evaporated.
  • If you have really fine hair and are afraid of conditioning, apply conditioner first in the shower and then shampoo your hair. That way, your hair gets the moisture it needs, and you’ll get the clean, full-bodied feeling of a fresh shampoo.

  • One way to get healthy-looking hair? Rinse, Rinse, Rinse! Any conditioner left on your hair will weigh it down and won’t allow you to get the most optimal style.
  • Never brush your hair with a metal or bristle brush when it’s wet. Use a wide-tooth comb or a vent brush on damp hair to prevent breakage.
  • When applying conditioner, focus on the mid-shaft to ends as that is where the most damage is; you don’t need to moisturize the roots.
  • If your hair is brittle, don’t be afraid to lightly rinse conditioner out of your hair — it may benefit from a little conditioner left on your ends.
  • If your hair is fine, don’t try to over-condition — this will only weigh it down. Pick the right conditioner for fine hair to add back moisture.
  • For naturally stronger, healthier-looking hair, make sure you have a balanced diet. Your hair is a reflection of your inner health, so design your eating habits accordingly.
  • Once a week, deep condition your hair to leave it ultra soft and super strong. Apply your usual conditioner all over damp hair and put hair in a shower cap or towel. Leave it on your hair for ten minutes and then rinse thoroughly.
  • After shampooing and conditioning your hair, do a final rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle and leave hair looking extra shiny.
  • Avoid using a brush to detangle hair when it’s wet or damp — use a wide-tooth comb. Hair is more delicate when it’s wet, and a comb is gentler on damp hair than a brush.

Amazon haul #1 – Haircare, Jewelry and more!

Hello beautiful people!

I love online shopping, like crazy. It’s easy peasy and can be done at the comforts of your home. What can be more convenient than that? (Not for everyone though, like poor Roger below :P).

1029I mostly do local purchases, because I don’t have to worry about customs or the weight or anything like that. But then I decided to shop at Amazon US store because there are some items which are not available locally and I wanted to try them. I am always up for trying new products :). It’s so much fun right?.

As the title says, I had placed the order back in February and chose a shipping option of 8 – 16 days. I received one item within 6 days and three items in March (in 13 days). Everything came carefully and neatly packed. There were small air bags inside, so that the products (which were individually wrapped) are separated well and don’t get damaged while in transit.

I delayed doing this post, because I didn’t want to jump to conclusions about any product that I am reviewing here. Three months is a good amount of time to judge a product. So here goes…

All the prices mentioned in this post are the ones I have bought it at. I have noticed that Amazon prices tend to fluctuate. The prices in the brackets are the cost of it as of today. Anyways, here are the 4 items that I bought:

1) Macadamia Oil Deep Repair Mask, 8.5 ounces Jar (250 ml) : If you just type this in a YouTube search bar, you will be surprised at the number of people raving about it. Being a hair-care freak (well the number of haircare DIYs on this blog might have given you a hint!), I wanted to try this so badly.

The tub is really pretty. In fact, to me, it looks like a coconut (Forget the green part of it :P). Brown on the outside and creamy white inside. The smell is literally HEAVENLY. Like you guys won’t believe how rich, luxurious and amazing the smell is. The tub comes with directions and it says there that this is an intense repairing mask and thus should not be used more than twice a week. I totally agree with that. You should never overwhelm your hair with products, however amazing they are.

I used it twice in the first week that I received it. Then on, I used it once every week. While applying it, at that time itself, hair feels super-duper soft. The directions on the tub says to apply it liberally onto wet hair. The very first time, I shampooed my hair and then applied it. I found my hair to be really dry after it completely air-dried. The second time though, I applied it to wet hair without shampooing and found that my hair had a really soft texture and was easily manageable. So that’s how I have been using it since.

The directions say to apply it for 7 minutes. I have timed myself every single time and never exceeded that time limit. However, I did find someone saying that they applied it for 20 minutes and then her hair was much more softer than a 7 minutes application. But well, I am happy with 7 minutes. I apply it only to the lower half of my hair (from the level of my ear and down). I believe that conditioners should not be applied to the scalp, because it’s totally unnecessary. The new hair at the scalp is already nourished by the oils produced by our skin and does not require an external conditioning treatment.

I would definitely purchase this again. I highly recommend this product to all. It does what it promises and that according to me, is a great deal!. It will be after quite a while though, because this tub is going to last me a LONG time.

Price : US $16.86 (As of today, it costs US $18.84)

2) Organic R/s Root Stimulator Hair Fertilizer, 6 Ounce (170 gms) : Ok, another hair-care product :D.. Hehe. The name itself is very attractive. Not the fertilizer part. Well, that brings images of plant manure and what not. But believe me, ‘this fertilizer’ smells good and has a cream colored mayonnaise-like texture. The tub says to apply it daily. But I chose to apply it thrice a week. I do other hair-care DIYs too. So I really don’t want to overwhelm my hair with daily application.

The product is very thick and at first I feared applying it would be tough. However, the product is absorbed by the hair pretty fast and I like that. It does not leave the hair greasy, which is a huge plus. I usually brush my hair first and make sure it’s untangled. Then I scoop the product out, apply on the scalp and then brush again so that it’s evenly distributed.

I believe this is formulated to be applied on the hair and washed off after some time. But nothing is mentioned about it in the directions. So I chose to apply it in the night and wash off in the morning. As it’s not greasy, it’s totally ok.

Within the second week of using it, I felt a really good difference. My hair has a beautiful shine and it’s softer now.

I would highly recommend this product too :). I would definitely re-purchase.

Price : US $7.69 (As of today, it costs US $7.67)

3) Neutrogena Healthy Skin Eye Cream, 0.5 Ounce (15gms) : This product is supposed to reduce the appearance of fine lines around the eye area.  As I didn’t have an eye cream for my skincare routine, I decided to make this a part of my night time routine. It contains Alpha Hydroxy in it and it’s supposed to be anti-ageing. That’s what attracted me to this product. I have used it for 1 month now and it’s nearly over.

I just take a tiny dot on my ring finger and work it around my eyes in a patting/dabbing motion. Eye creams should never be rubbed on, as the skin is really delicate there. I think it has the right consistency. Not liquidy nor thick. Very easy to apply. It has a VERY faint smell of medicine/pharmacy!. But it’s a nice smell not bad at all. Infact, after the first couple of uses, you can’t even smell it anymore because by then you would get used to the faint smell. This cream can be applied under makeup too but I have never tried that. Also, it says to apply it twice a day but I apply it only in the night. Please keep in mind that products with alpha hydroxy acid should not be worn out in the sunlight, as our skin becomes more susceptible to damage.

Well, about it’s effect on my skin, umm, I am still kind of undecided on it. I am 25 by the way and I don’t actually have a lot of lines around my eyes. I *think* the lines on the crow’s feet area is lesser. But, you know how sometimes you like to make yourself believe that a product is working and it appears like it really does work, while probably it’s not?. Jeez!.. Does that even make any sense?. But that’s how I feel about this product. Maybe others have totally benefited from it and it does say on the tube “Clinically proven to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines around the eye area”. I think I am fooling myself into thinking that this product works. For 15 gms, it’s pretty expensive, mostly because it’s from the brand Neutrogena (I have had positive experience from other products of this brand but this… um….).

I won’t be re-purchasing this product and I don’t really recommend it to others.

Price : US $9.83 (As of today, it costs US $12.50)

4) 18K Rose Gold Plated Sterling Silver Diamond Heart MOM Pendant Necklace (0.01 cttw, I-J Color, I3 Clarity) : This is such a gorgeous chain and pendant. From the below picture on the site, I kind of expected the pendant to be slightly bigger than it actually is.

But still, I am not complaining. Sometimes, small and simple is more beautiful. My mom absolutely loved it.

If you are new to my blog, you probably wouldn’t know that I had gifted it to my mom along with a DIY greeting card, on Mother’s Day. This is actually a beautiful gift to give to your mom, any time of the year.

Price : US $39.00 (As of today, it costs US $29.00 (Man, I feel ripped off!!), but is temporarily out of stock)

My total shipping fee was US $23.02 and was delivered right to my door step by Aramex. The people at Amazon decided to divide my order into two and I believe it’s done so that, what is available readily, gets faster to me. The chain arrived first and the rest followed. I paid only one shipping fee for the order and obviously was not charged for two separate deliveries.

I really hope you loved my mini haul from Amazon / review 😀

If you are in UAE and you have never purchased from Amazon before, you will find my “How to” guide extremely useful!

Haircare : A conditioning DIY hair mask..

Hello all!

I am back with another DIY hair mask. I do hope you have already read the nourishing mask post I did before 🙂

This time, it’s gonna be an ultra conditioning mask. You will need :

1/2 a banana – It is rich in potassium, natural oils, carbohydrates and vitamins that helps in softening the hair and protects the hair’s natural elasticity preventing split ends and breakage. It also enhances the strength, endurance and shine of the hair. You will need to mash it. So I selected a very ripe one for this mask.

4 tbsp Mayonnaise – It has the power to deeply condition the hair. It is rich in proteins, thanks to the egg content in it. Our hair is acidic and the acidity in Mayo helps maintain the hair’s natural acid level.

1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil – It is known to hydrate and deeply condition your hair.

1 tbsp coconut oil – It penetrates the hair shaft and prevents protein loss from the hair. Also helps seal in and retain moisture, thus giving the hair shine and vitality. In the above pic, you can see how I store my coconut oil in a big container and put a spoon into it. This way, even when it’s solidified, I can scoop it out easily.

2 tbsp honey – Helps in giving moisture and softness to the hair.

4 tbsp water  – I used water in the making of this mask but later felt it was uncalled for as it made the mask very drippy.

Alright guys, so you can see what a fantastic array of ingredients is included in the mask. Here is the step by step look at the preparation:

1) Mash the banana. I find it easy to do it using a fork.

20130130_112755 Should look like that

2) Add 4 tbsp of mayo.

20130130_113217In this pic, you can see the banana mix is watery. That’s because I added 4 tbsp of water to it, just before adding the mayo. Totally unnecessary!

3) Add 2 tbsp of honey

4) Add the olive oil.

5) Final step, adding the coconut oil

It should look like below in the end (but not as watery)

You can have this hair mask on for about 30 mins or more. I usually have it on for an hour. I first apply this to the scalp and then work my way until the very tip of my hair. Make sure your hair is fully saturated with this mixture. I then put up my hair in a bun and throw in a shower cap. I usually dampen a towel and put it in the microwave to heat it for about 20 secs. Then I wrap this towel on top of the shower cap, so that the warmth penetrates the cap and help along in opening the cuticles of the hair.

After that wash your hair using a mild shampoo. No need to use a conditioner.

NOTE: By the way, if you guys been wondering what TYPE of hair I have (I didn’t even mention it in my last hair care post), it’s fine and damaged hair with split ends. Yeah!. That’s as horrible as it sounds. I want to nourish back my hair to it’s former glory (before I dumbly re-bonded my hair TWICE) and that’s why I have been doing at-home hair care of late.

That’s all for now. Hang in there and don’t forget to stay awesome 🙂

Sarah of Blend N Smack – She does awesome makeup tutorials, product reviews and useful ‘how to’ tutorials. She has been blogging for only six months but her posts have a professional quality to it that will leave you assuming that she has been blogging for years!. All three of these bloggers were perfect to collab with to do this tag because of our shared love for beauty products. Do check out these awesome bloggers and show them love by subscribing to them 🙂

On to the questions!

1) Greed: What is your most inexpensive beauty product? What is your most expensive beauty product?

A : My most inexpensive beauty product is the Eyetex Dazzler liquid black eyeliner, costing only Rs.35 (AED2.13)!. It’s an Indian brand and one that I am super impressed with. It’s quality and intense color is just amazing. I keep going back to this brand and purchase one almost every year when I go to India for vacation.

The most expensive beauty product I own is the Foreo Luna, a phenomenal skincare tool costing $208.90 (AED 767.31)!. It is a great addition to my skincare routine and one that I am so glad I invested in!. Read my detailed review by clicking here.

Blogpix 035

2) Wrath: What beauty product do you have a love/hate relationship with?

Blush!. I love how blush can make someone look like a picture of glowing health but I still haven’t yet figured out how to apply it well. Sometimes it looks good by fluke, sometimes it makes me look like a clown. I have a blush palette from Mikyajy that I bought some time ago. It’s the Blush Delights palette, worth about AED 145. I use only couple of the darker plum colors from it. Once I figure out how to get it’s application right every single time, this will no longer be a love/hate relationship 😀

Sevensins 002

3) Gluttony: What are your most delicious beauty products?

Three products come to my mind immediately, when I think of the word ‘delicious’. These three smell amazing. Click the links for reviews :

Sevensins 013

4) Sloth: What beauty product do you neglect due to laziness?

Eye primer/eyeshadow base!. I am pretty lazy when it comes to using that. To my defense, let me say that I am not much of an eyeshadow fan. Even if I wear them, it’s for a short time. I am not looking for a lasting look. When I do use it, which is pretty rare, I go for Elf’s eyeshadow primer in ‘Sheer’, which costs $3 (AED 11.02).

Sevensins 010

5) Pride: What beauty product gives you the most self-confidence?

Liquid eyeliners!. I love them so deeply. I wear it every single day whether I am going out or not!. I love highlighting my eyes, as I feel it’s my best feature. A winged eyeliner brings all attention to the eyes :). After bathing, that’s one of the main things I reach for. Here are some of my favorites :

Sevensins 007

  • Eyetex Dazzler liquid eyeliner – This is not a waterproof liner. It can be easily washed off. Just the kind I love!. It’s perfect for daily wear!. Costs Rs.35 (AED2.13) for 6.5 ml.
  • Kohl – The one I own is a no name brand from India. The finish it offers is bold and dark. It costs about AED 2.50.
  • Rimmel London Soft Kohl eyeliner pencil – It’s a nice one and costs AED18.
  • Maybelline Colossal Kajal – This one has an intense black color and is perfect for the waterline. It’s AED 25.
  • Avon Super Shock gel eyeliner – This one gives a soft and creamy look. It believe it was AED 47. It’s been a while since I have had it.

6) Lust: What attributes do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?

When I see a guy, what I take notice of, is his hairstyle, height and broad shoulders!.  I like tall people. It’s true looks matter since that’s what you judge a person by, the very first time you see them. Obviously, you wouldn’t know someone’s character by looking at them, right?. Once I get to know them, what I love is their intelligence, sense of humor and caring nature. I am so blessed to have a tall and handsome husband. Touchwood!. He is 5ft 10, has broad shoulders, has a great hairstyle, makes me laugh (at times only. Other times, I just wanna kill him :P) and cares extremely for me ♥

7) Envy: What products would you most like to receive as a gift?

Oh well…. where do I begin! :P. I love gifts. I love just about anything meaningful and useful but there are four types of gifts that make my heart flutter:

bangle braceletPic taken from

  • Perfumes : I LOVE perfumes. Soft and sensual is my scent preference. My favorite high end one is Hypnose by Lancome (which is in the AED 300s range)  and favorite low end one is Time Bomb (which is AED30). I am currently lusting for Escada Especially Elixir, of which I got a sample in the July Glambox.

favperfumesPicture taken from

EscadaPicture taken from

  • Skincare products: I am a skincare product junkie. I can never have enough of it. I love being gifted products that are suited for my skin type, which is normal/dry. Currently, I am lusting for Wedderspoon Organic’s Queen of the Hive face contour mask, which contains bee venom and Manuka honey!. It’s pretty expensive, has rave reviews and hopefully one day I’ll have it too..

Picture taken from iHerb

  • Handmade things : These are from the heart, creative and thoughtful!. I have been gifted several handmade cards and even a painted mug in the past. Simply love it!

I now tag the following people to do this tag :

1) Daania of Serendipity Happens

2) Deena of Deenass88

3) Kate of Sleeping Bootay

4) Monica of Impressions of a Princess

5) Praseena of Coral Crue

I hope you all loved this tag and my answers to it. Do let me know what your answers are to these questions in the comments section below.

My experience with hair rebonding…

Hi guys!

In my haircare related posts, I always mention my hair is dry and damaged. Here is a little bit of history on it…. a trip down memory lane..

It was 2009. I was working back then. My hair was a little bit wavy, unmanageable and unruly. So getting them de-tangled right in the morning was a tough job. Also my father always wanted my hair to look great and kept telling me “Ask your Filipina friends how their hair looks so great!”. So finally I decided to do rebonding. I looked around for a perfect salon and with suggestions from couple of my Filipina colleagues, I finally chose a Filipina salon. I chose them because they are experts in the hair rebonding industry. When you decide to do anything, you go to the very best yeah?.

So, depending on my hair length (which is long), I was charged AED1000 for rebonding. It was a six hour procedure. Chemicals (tons of them) were applied, heat was applied, I was told to sit straight once it was all done so that no waves/curls form in the hair. The heat was pretty unbearable by the way. I never use hot tools on my hair so I pretty much had awesome (but unruly) virgin hair back then. [Oh by the way, the last time I had my hair straightened in a salon with a hot tool along with a blow dry was on a special occasion 2 years ago!.]

Anyways finally it was done and I had perfect hair. If you ever see me, my hair is definitely not something you would notice for being pretty. Probably my eyes maybe :P. But definitely not my hair. So finally getting my hair to look great, I was on top of the world. I got compliments by the ton. My confidence level hit an all time high and went right through the roof. Obviously that’s what you too would feel when your hair looks like this right?.

Smooth hair

All was well, until my hair started falling like crazy. At first, I noticed it while bathing. Previously my hairfall wasn’t exactly noticeable. Everyone has hairfall. Infact, on a regular day, a normal person sheds a maximum on 50 strands of hair. So when a lot of hair started falling I couldn’t help but notice. I tried conditioners (from the brand Cream Silk – also what Filipina’s use), but it didn’t make any difference. On my comb, I didn’t find much hair because my hair was so smooth it didn’t get snagged onto the comb. But on the floor, there was a lot of hair. I wasn’t cleaning my rooms back then (my mom was), so I never noticed. My mom did keep saying that I gotta take care of my hair more.

So, one year went by and my hair had already started becoming a bit wavy. The volume of my hair nearly halved. But still, could you really believe how stupid I was when I decided that I wanted to get my hair rebonded again!!.

Jeez. Looking back at those memories, I wish I could dissuade myself from doing it. But I did it again. This time it cost AED800. My hair looked great again. It was almost addicting. That smooth feel. But my hairfall continued.

Today, 4 years later, my hair is still under the category of ‘Damaged’. I do a lot of DIYs, deep conditioning at home etc to try and get back the health of my hair. I don’t work now a days and so, I have the time to take care of it like never before. The new hair that grows, seems to be more wavier than my original hair, which is pretty sad. I trim my hair every 2 months so that the ultra straight hair at the bottom is slowly gotten rid of. But what I can say is that the volume that I had, might never come back. It’s sickening really!. Now when I braid my entire hair, I have one ‘tail like’ braid while before I could have 2 braids with double the current one’s volume.

My final verdict : Rebonding gives you short lived happiness. It’s not worth it at all in the long run. If you are thinking about getting your hair rebonded, I would dissuade you completely. Just don’t do it. It’s not worth your time and money. Just look after your hair. Treat it with respect and care. Try to avoid hot tools for everyday use. I hope this post helps atleast someone out there decide against getting their hair rebonded.

Review : Dove Hair Fall Rescue Intensive Roots Treatment!

Hello friends!

I am so excited to review the Dove HFR Intensive Roots Treatment. I heard about this product pretty much a lot and thought. “Dove is a brand I absolutely love and I am all for hair care products. So well, why not?”..

What attracted me the most to it, is that it recognizes and tends to both kinds of hair falls: 1) Hair fall from the roots (when hair strands fall off directly from the roots) and 2) Hair breakage (when little hair strands break off from the middle). I suffer from both of it. It’s lesser than before (due to the vitamins I take/ hair care DIYs that I do) but it’s still there. The damage that I did to my hair by rebonding it twice, is gonna be there for a while!.

Here is the product packaging:

It has seven root power shots in the box. Each of it is 7ml. I like that by separating it into 7 vials, we know exactly how much to use for each application.

You are supposed to use it every other day for 2 weeks. So the first powershot for Day 1, second powershot for Day 3 and so on. Using it is very easy. The usage direction is listed on the box however, I will note them down here too:

1) Wash hair as usual and towel dry

2) Break open the nozzle cap of one powershot, with caution.

3) Make series of partings in your hair and apply the lotion evenly on clean scalp. Spread it well to the hair strands.

4) Use entire content of one vial at each application and leave it until next wash. Style as usual.

You might be wondering… 7 ml for one application. Isn’t that too less?. I had asked that question myself. But I was really surprised that 7 ml is more than enough. The long nozzle makes application easy. I applied them drop by drop in each hair parting. I then massaged it in and made sure my entire scalp as well as approx. 2 cms of each hair strands from the root, is saturated with it . After applying it to each hair parting, I still had some amount left in the vial. So I simply squeezed it out onto my palm, and massaged it into my scalp, ensuring I got complete coverage plus there is no wastage of the product.

The serum/lotion is a transparent liquid which is just slightly viscous. It’s not runny, like how a serum might be nor as thick as a lotion!. It’s just perfect enough to easily spread through your hair and get absorbed into your scalp. The serum/lotion is slightly cool, which I just loved!. Below is a shot of my hair immediately after application. It looks like you applied a gel. But within minutes, it gets absorbed and you are left with manageable and soft hair, which has a natural shine and which doesn’t look like you applied something to it.

This targeted root action is meant to be a superior hairfall protection and for stronger hair. This product contains Trichazole with Ginseng & Soy Protein.

Trichazole strengthens our hair from the root, keeping it glued to it’s place.

Soy protein is a goldmine of nutrients which are essential for healthy hair, like B vitamins, potassium, iron, calcium, protein etc.

Ginseng is a herb long used in Chinese medicine. It helping the body adapt to stress, which is known to be a cause of hair loss.

These three powerhouses unite together in Dove HFR Intensive Roots Treatment to lock your hair in place and stimulate your scalp to build the optimum environment for hair growth.

The RESULT: I have indeed noticed a mighty reduction in my hair fall rate. In order to judge this product in the best way possible, in the 2 weeks that I did this treatment, I did not do any other oil treatments, hair care treatments or take my vitamins. So now I know that the reduction in hair fall is solely due to the usage of this product.

I highly recommend this to you. I am thinking of using a box every 4 months or so. I bought this from Lulu center, Mazyad Mall, Abu Dhabi. A box costs AED 33.45, which means each power shot vial is worth AED 4.77 which is really affordable. This is one drugstore product that I absolutely trust and love. Dove did a great job with this.

I just noticed by the way, that this is one of the products featured in Simone Heng’s curated Glambox. They have a competition going on right now where 20 lucky ones will get a chance to win a Simone Heng Glambox each. Click to read about it.

Vitamins that I love!

Wazzup, wonderful people!

You guys know what kind of poor diet most of the people have these days. What with amazing, yet calorie laden food easily available, it’s not anyone’s fault that green leafy vegetables and fruits become ‘unattractive’!. So, I would say, vitamin supplements are a must for everyone. Following are the vitamins I take and highly recommend to you too. Before going ahead, please bare in mind that if you take any kind of medicines, it’s always great to consult with your doctor before adding supplements to your daily routine.

1) Omega 3 Cod Liver Oil

I take this for overall health. Fish oils are amazing. I am not much of a fish lover, particularly not of sardines, which is a good source of Omega 3 oil. These tablets are an excellent source of Vitamins A & D and help in maintenance of good skin, eyesight and ensure healthy immune system.

The one that I use is Omega 3 Norwegian Cod Liver Oil tablets from Natural Wealth.

A bottle, costing AED 35, contains 100 tablets, which is good for a little more than 3 months because the recommended prescription is 1 tablet per day. The tablets are oval and golden in color, with a distinct smell which I cant really put my finger on. Pretty weird smell, but I wouldnt consider it bad.

If you have never taken these before, lemme warn you not to ever bite this tablet. The gel inside has a pungent fishy smell, that you wont be able to stand!

2) Biotin

I take this mainly to promote hair growth. I have discussed earlier on this blog about my damaged hair and such. From the haircare DIYs that I do, you probably already know that I am trying my best to restore health and vitality to my crowning glory!. So when I came across Biotin and knew more about it, I knew I had to have it.

Biotin is a water soluble B complex vitamin also known as Vitamin H. It helps in cell regeneration, promoting nail and hair health and preventing hairloss. It is available at any pharmacy in varying concentration. I decided to start with Hair, Skin & Nails tablets from Nature’s Bounty at first.

Along with Biotin, these tablets contains other vitamins too like A, C, D, E (well, pretty much every alphabet out there!), Calcium, Collagen, Iron etc. The biotin level is the highest though being 3000mcg per serving size, which is 3 tablets. Though it says to take 3 tablets, I took only 1 per day. Let’s do the math, shall we?. So one tablet gave me 1000mcg per day. I think that’s a very decent amount to start with. The tablet has a very pungent smell like yogurt that’s gone bad!. It has a light green color with brownish spots. They are pretty large in size and each bottle, costing AED 80, contains 60 tablets, good for 2 months.

Within 2 weeks of taking it, I noticed tiny hair sprouting up along the border of my forehead and at the back of my neck. Then it started growing longer over the weeks. The result was very much noticeable in my case. I loved it totally!. Doing haircare DIYs at the same time, really helped along the hair growth I should say. You have to make sure you drink a lot of water too. I mean, if you just have the tablet, do nothing else and wait around for results, it might take a looong time!

When those tablets were over, I went back to the pharmacy but unfortunately Nature’s Bounty was out of stock. So I went for another brand. This time, I chose Biotin 600 from GNC.

It contains 600mcg of Biotin and no other vitamins. It’s ok. The tablets are small, oval sized white ones, with no smell.

Each bottle, costing AED 65, contains 120 tablets, good for 4 months. Once this is over I will go back to Nature’s Bounty, because it gave me the best first impression. I would highly recommend Nature’s Bounty over GNC, as it contains other key vitamins too.

Though there are many different levels of Biotin available in the market, I wouldn’t suggest taking more than 5000mcg per day. Our body does not require a LOT of biotin. Moderate amounts like 1000mcg will do the trick. So why take a large amount like say 10000mcg?

3) B Complex

I take these tablets only when I occasionally get mouth ulcer. If you have got mouth ulcer before, you will know how bothersome it is. So if I wake up one not-so-fine day and find an ulcer, I immediately pop one of these tablets and until it’s gone I take it once per day. While we are on that subject, let me tell you that when you get an ulcer and you don’t treat it immediately, there are chances that there will be swelling on that side of the face, along the jawline. Don’t worry. Just take this tablet and the swelling will go down.

The one that I use is Complete B from Puritan’s Pride.

Each bottle, costing AED 25, contains 30 tablets. They are yellow colored, long and has a sick smell 😛

All tablets were purchased from Bin Sina Pharmacy, which has a number of branches all over UAE.

So that’s it for now, guys!. Everything mentioned above is based on my experience. You gotta understand that everything works differently for different people :). Do you take any vitamin supplements?. Let me know in the comments..

Naz =)
