2 eggs = 1 fabulous DIY hair mask + 1 face mask!

Hi my lovable friends!

When I tried this mask on believe me, I knew then and there that I had to share it with you guys πŸ™‚

My last DIY haircare mask required 5 ingredients. The one I am going to share now, has only 2 ingredients and the result it gives is fantastic when compared to any other masks I have done so far!

You will need:

2 egg yolks – Our hair is made of proteins and the protein content of the yolk adds strength to the hair follicles, thus making the hair roots stronger. The fatty acids in it brings a natural shine to your hair. It aids in controlling hair loss. I have long hair by the way. So I require 2 egg yolks. If you have shoulder length hair, I believe you will need only 1 egg yolk.

2 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive oil – Olive oil is helps hydrate and deep condition you hair.Β The amount of olive oil depends on the number of yolks you incorporate in the mask. 1 egg yolk ~ 1 tbsp olive oil and so on.

Step by step preparation :

1) Beat the two egg yolks together using either a fork or a whisk, until it becomes a bit frothy like in the photo below.

2) Add two tbsp of extra virgin olive oil to it.

3) Beat the mixture again.

20130318_163143

4) Beat it until you get a thick and creamy mixture like below.

20130318_163159

How to apply

1) First wash your hair with a mild shampoo.

2) Apply this mixture onto your wet hair gently (I say ‘gently’ because applying something to wet hair is much tougher than applying anything to dry hair. It tends to break faster when it’s wet. So just be gentle!)

3) First apply to the scalp and massage in. Then make sure your entire hair is saturated with this mixture.

4) Pull it up in a loose bun and cover with a shower cap.

5) Wait for 20 mins

6) Wash off with or without a shampoo. I washed really well and I felt the olive oil in it didn’t actually make my hair ‘oily’. So I preferred not to use a shampoo.

7) Do this mask once or twice a week πŸ™‚

WARNING: This mask STINKS. Such a horrid smell. But the result it gives is fantastic and I don’t mind tolerating the smell for that!.

What is the result you ask?.. SOFT and GLOSSY hair!. You will love how your hair feels. I actually felt like life was injected into my hair. I am loving this mask !!.

Look guys, this is a super simple hair mask. The ingredients are easily available. You have NO EXCUSE whatsoever for not doing this. Show your hair some TLC. Come on. Do it!

So well, I was left with the egg white, which I beat into a frothy mixture.

Initially I thought of making scrambled eggs and eating it. But then I felt like doing a facial with part of it as the batch of my daily anti-oxidant facial had got over. Β So I simply took about 2 tbsp of the above mixture and applied it onto my face and neck. I kept it on for 10 mins until my skin felt real tight. This mask helps brings glow to your skin. Also it helps shrink the size of the pores on your skin. If you have large pore size, this mask is perfect for you. Gives instant results. Overall, you are left with smooth and soft skin. I suggest this mask once a week.

In the picture above, my mixture seems a bit yellow because I managed to get a few drops of the egg yolk in it!. Clumsy me πŸ˜›.

If you have acne prone skin, please make sure that you don’t get egg yolk into this mixture because it might break you out.

If you have oily skin, add a few drops of lemon juice to the egg white, beat it together and apply. This helps in controlling the oil in your skin. Also cleanses your skin πŸ™‚

So that’s it for now. With the rest of the egg white, I made scrambled egg. Hehe.

I just now realized that this is my 50th post. How cool!!

  1. It’s Awesome… thanks for sharing this lovely facial… πŸ™‚
    and congratulation for your 50th post…!! πŸ˜€

  2. currently in the process with the egg and oil hair mask, and just got done with facial, and my face has never been this soft before. i have eczema which causes my skin to be very dry and wow, the results are amazing, i will most likely do this about once a week for my face! cant wait see how my hair turns out next! so excited!

    • Hi Savannah!. It’s a pleasure to know that you loved the facial. Yayy!. Let me know how your hair feels. Also, more than anything else, I thank you for letting me know and for stopping by β™‘

    • Please read the How to apply section in the post. Shampoo at first. No conditioner. This mask acts as a conditioner. I would suggest no shampoo after the procedure. Thank you for stopping by!

    • It’s good if you apply the shower cap so that the heat produced by your body gets trapped within the cap, opens the pores on your head and let the mixture be absorbed more (like a steam treatment). You can even substitute the shower cap with a wet and warm towel. Works the same!

  3. I am so super happy that I came across this today! My hair is not only shiny and soft, but the split ends are nearly invisible and my hair is thickest it’s been since I started on my heart medication. πŸ™‚ I did change it up a little, I used one full egg, and then two egg yolks because I’ve got so much hair, and washed it out with about a quarter of the shampoo I normally use, along with about a third of the amount of conditioner afterward.
While I was doing the hair mask I decided to try the face mask at the same time, with added lemon for oily skin and it was wonderful for my face! It’s silky smooth and the oil is nonexistent for the moment.

    • Hii Becky!.. I am super happy to hear that it worked out great for you. Thank you for listing the alterations you made to the original one. That way, it might come in handy to others too.. I hope you are alright dear. Hope the heart condition is OK. Thank you for following me β™‘

  4. hi naznin..i am having so much split ends.. even after hair cuts, its not going..any solutions? and because of change of water, hair fall also is high.. 😦 and my hair has become so dry like straw..please give some suggestions.. i will start doing the egg yolk remedy..or anything more shud b added 4 repairing splits n dryness?

    • Hi Deepa!. Split ends is a nasty problem. Only solution is to trim your hair once every 3 months. Drink plenty of water because split end occurs in dry, damaged hair.

There are plenty of products in stores calling itself split end serums. Don’t bother buying them. It’s useless. Once split, you can’t bind hair back together with any serum. That’s why only trimming works. Hope this helps. Stay tuned for haircare posts right here on my blog β™‘

  6. do you think its ok to mix in a tablespoon of castor oil with the egg yolks and olive oil? im asking because i have a bottle of castor oil and heard its great for the hair as well. Plus all 3 ingredients mixed together can only be a good thing, right?

  7. hi
amazing tip for hair…but let me know which olive oil to be used, there are so many various brands n which is suitable for hair. I have purchased PRISTIANO Madrid extra virgin oil. is it ok?

    • Hi Yogini!. In the UAE market there are umpteen number of olive oils available. Extra virgin olive oil of any brand is great for hair =).. It’s not necessary to buy really expensive brands. I am using a local brand called Rahma. It’s good and costs less than 10 bucks as far as I remember.. Hope that helps!

    • It makes your hair stronger. The more better the way you treat your hair, the healthier and loved it would be. Then it will grow longer. Everyone’s hair normally grows about 1/2 an inch in a month. I think only vitamin tabs can make it grow faster than that.

    • Hi Sheree.. unfortunately no. Dry hair can still be treated for but definitely not split ends, with this mask. Trimming every 3 – 6 months is the only way you can get rid of split ends. Don’t waste your money on split end serums ok?.

    • Oh!. I didn’t know such an oil existed!. I watched the video and visited the site. Seems really good!. Thanks for mentioning it to me. I believed that it was the protein in egg yolks that helps promote hair growth. But it is mentioned that in EYOVA, the proteins are removed and thus is safe to use for even people who are allergic to eggs. Though it contains several other good things in it, it’s kinda confusing!. Have you used it, Prashant?

      • Hi Naznin,
Contrary to popular belief, the proteins in egg (or indeed any proteins) do not get absorbed at all through the scalp or skin. Proteins need to be digested in the stomach and broken down to amino acids for absorption into the human body and topical (skin/hair) application is ineffective. The only function proteins possibly perform for hair is to artificially coat the strands and make them thicker, making the hair look fuller and less liable to breakage. However, this does not prevent hairfall, graying, thinning, dandruff etc. since most of these damages happen at the follicle (root). It’s the overhyped proteins which cause most allergic reactions and foul smell. Egg oil is usually free of proteins. There are also historic references in Unani medicine to use Egg oil (Roghan Baiza Murg) in hair care. However, the traditionally produced Egg Oil was made by heating which destroyed most of the biologically active components.
        Egg Oil (EYOVA) contains:
        (1) Omega-3 fatty acids which nourish the scalp at the cellular level and pushes hair into the anagen (growth) phase. This not only retards hairfall but also promotes new growth of hair.
        (2) Cholesterol which gives shinier and lustrous hair and eliminates dandruff by moisturising the scalp. It also facilitates absorption of other ingredients into the dermis.
        (3) Anti-oxidants Lutein and Zeaxanthin which prevent premature graying or ageing of hair.
        (4) Immunoglobulins (anti-bodies) which fight disease and infections.
If all of this is too scientific or confusing, simply try out the product (smile). You might find it to be a one stop solution to all hair problems.
you can get more information and even buy it online on http://www.eyova.com
I have been using this egg oil since long and found it to be really good.

  9. Hey Naz πŸ™‚
I tried this but my hair has gone like straw….I couldn’t get a comb through it and it was really dry and just gross!! Just wondering if I did something wrong?!
I really want to move away from the conditioner x

    • Oh!. That’s so weird. It worked great for me!.. Made my hair extremely soft. Did you leave the mask on for a really long time instead of 20 mins?. That’s the only thing I can think of, that you must have done wrong..

  10. This hair mask is amazing! It makes your hair feel so healthy that I can’t even explain it. I want to try the facial mask, but I have acne prone skin so I probably shouldn’t. The secret? Eggs are packed with protein, and your hair is almost only protein. You see why you should use this mask?

  11. How bad is the smell? I’m gonna try this mask tomorrow, but, I don’t wanna smell bad? Should I use shampoo to get rid of the smell or use perfume?

  12. Hey, love this post!
I want a ton of egg whites but dont like buying them in a carton, glad theres a great way to use the yolks as well(:!
I was wondering how the mask works though? Did you mean just put the whites on your face or mix it with your antioxidant mask? If you meant to mix it, how many parts of each? Thank yo so much for the awesome post(:!

    • Hi Lexie!. I am so glad you liked this post. You have to apply only the egg white on your face. Not mix it with the other mask!. What I said in the post is that my other mask, which I use daily had got over. So for that particular day, I used the egg white as my mask. Hope it’s clear now πŸ™‚

  13. Not to be rude, but this mix completely wrecked my hair. I did exactly as it said. After blowdrying my hair it was clear that it just wasn’t gonna work. It made my hair dry, knotty, frizzy and thick. Usually when I take a shower and then blowdry my hair it turns out perfectly smooth and soft. My hair also smells like death. Not going to use this one again and I don’t recommend anyone else doing this either. :/ Thanks for the post though.

  14. Is it rite to use honey wid olive oil as I’ve heard dat if u use honey den ur hairs will become white. i really loved the
remedies for increasing hair volume they really work,,,,,Gd tips and easily available….I didn’t try this as I am using
    Hibiscus pack…Nice πŸ™‚Easy Hair Care

  15. Hi ! So I really want to try out this hair mask but I have a few questions =D my hair is falling out a lot I mean I eat really healthy and stuff like that but if I brush through my hair like 50 strands come out is this really going to thick my hair up and strengthin it ? And my hair is super curly or gets tangled a lot is this going to help de tangle hair ? Please reply and I don’t have a shower cap so can I like put it in a bun and put a towel over it ? Thanks a lot ! Your very sweet !!

    • Hi Neha!. This mask does help strengthen and soften your hair. Also it will make your hair more manageable. So it won’t be detangled. You can easily comb through. You gotta do this regularly. You can warm up a towel and then wrap it over your hair in a bun. The warmth will let the mask penetrate your hair more. I hope you try the mask and let me know how your hair feels!

  16. Thanks ! And you said we have to do this everyday or every second day but someone told me not to do this everyday because it will be to much protein for the hair and it will turn the hair brittle ? And thank u so much to replying really fast ! I love reading your blog !! =D

    • Hey Neha!. Thank you for reading my blog β™‘.. I did mention in the post that you need to do it only once or twice a week. No mask should be done daily, in my belief. Hope that helps!

        • I think it’s ok to put it for long time but the egg tends to stiffen the longer you keep it on your hair. So, I would suggest keeping it for a maximum of 1 hour and then shower.

  17. Hello would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using?

I’m looking to start my own blog in the near future but I’m
having a hard time choosing between BlogEngine /Wordpress / B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different
then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique.

P.S Sorry for getting off-topic but I had to ask!
